How Money Works at AIE: Royalties, Merch and Sales
Where your music money comes from, how AIE's 15% share works on store and merch sales, and how payouts are recorded.
Streaming royalties
Streaming income comes from your distributor (for the recording) and from publishing or rights organizations (for the songwriting). These are separate. Sign up for both so you don't miss money. Our Get Paid guide walks through it step by step.
Selling on AIE
When you sell music, beats or merch through AIE, AIE keeps 15% of the net and you get 85%. Net means the item price after discounts, minus taxes and payment-processing fees. For merch, the cost of making the item is also taken out before the split. Full details are in the Buyers FAQ.
Selling beats
Beats are sold as non-exclusive leases at set tiers. Each tier comes with a license that spells out what the buyer can do. You keep ownership of the beat.
Payouts
Your sales, fees and shares appear on your Artist Dashboard. Payouts are paid manually by AIE and recorded on your payout history page, so you can always see what's been paid.
Keep records
Save your sales reports and payout records for taxes. Talk to a tax professional about what applies to you.
